Delivering State-of-Art Technologies to The Abu Qir Container Terminal

Project Overview

Smart System played a substantial role in the establishment of the Abu Qir Container Terminal (AQCT) owned by Hutchinson Ports Holdings. This significant undertaking focused on setting up the infrastructure from the ground up, marking a foundational step in the site’s development. The latest technologies were implemented to achieve the highest levels of stability and accessibility with steadfast security.

Client Background

Hutchison Ports Holdings (HPH) is a global leader in port operations and logistics, Hutchison Ports Holdings is renowned for its extensive network of ports and terminals worldwide including the Abu Qir Container Terminal (AQCT). The Abu Qir Container Terminal represents a strategic expansion initiative to accommodate the growing demands of maritime trade in the region. Positioned as a state-of-the-art container terminal, AQCT, under the umbrella of Hutchinson Ports Holdings, is set to play a crucial role in bolstering the capabilities of Egypt’s container handling infrastructure. Smart System has been a trusted partner of Hutchinson Ports Holdings (HPH) since 2007, with a long history of Smart System supplying for the Alexandria International Container Terminal (AICT) also owned by HPH.

Eliminate downtime for business-critical applications

Achieve greater stability & accessibility for users

Achieve Zero-trust security

Smart System collaborated closely with AQCT, starting from the design phase, to deliver an integrated solution that met all customer requirements and achieved optimal performance. The design involved implementing a stretched data center with stretched clusters, extending the vSAN cluster from a single data site to two sites. This architecture ensured a faster level of availability, intersite load balancing, and utilized VMware technologies, including vCloud Foundation. The comprehensive software-defined stack included VMware vSphere, VMware vSAN, VMware NSX, VMware Tanzu, and VMware Aria Suite. VMware Cloud Foundation provided a complete set of software-defined services for compute, storage, network, container, and cloud management. The result was an agile, reliable, and efficient cloud infrastructure offering consistent operations across private and public clouds.
